A Message from John Culberson
Dear Friends,
I wanted to update you on the most recent campaign finance reports, which were filed on tax day, April 15. My report shows I have raised $261,000 since the middle of February, increasing my total for the cycle to $629,000. My broad base of support includes 194 individuals who gave $200 or less, and 180 individuals who gave $200 or more.
Breaking those numbers down, 83% of my donors live in District Seven and 94% live in Texas. Meanwhile, less than 40% of my opponent's individual donors live in District Seven, and less than half live in Texas.
I'm proud of the support I've received from my friends and neighbors across District 7. They know me and support the work I'm doing on their behalf. My opponent has attracted some media attention with his ability to raise money from New York, Massachusetts, and California, but he's had difficulty connecting with District Seven voters.
I've been outspent by large margins in previous races for the Texas House and the U.S. House, so this is nothing new to me. The people of District Seven have proven repeatedly that this district is not for sale.
However, the best way for me to win this campaign is to run like I am behind, and the surest way to lose is to take victory for granted. I am always reluctant to badger my friends with fundraising requests, but this year I need your maximum support to offset my millionaire opponent's ability to bankroll his campaign. Please visit my website contribution page and make the maximum financial contribution you can afford.
My campaign will also help our countywide Republicans and our statewide Victory '08 effort register new Republican voters in District Seven from now through the registration deadline in early October. You will receive periodic emails about voter registration drives in west Houston and I hope you will join us.
We have leased our campaign headquarters and will be moving in soon. We will have an open house combined with one of many voter registration drives soon. I am very pleased that Culberson for Congress will be back in the Coad Building on Memorial Drive near Kirkwood, right next door to our first location in the old Taco Bell. I have many great memories in both headquarters, and I am looking forward to running a full-scale campaign operation.
In the meantime, please put a Culberson for Congress sticker in the rear window of your car and log onto the Web site to sign up for a yard sign, or to volunteer at headquarters, or to work in your neighborhood this summer or fall. I am extremely grateful for whatever help you can provide our campaign.
In the weeks and months ahead I will stay focused on doing a good job as your representative. That means being accountable and responsive, and above all, keeping my word to you.
Thank you for your generous support and friendship.
John Culberson
Member of Congress
